Chant this mantra after doing the breathing exercise - Pranayama. Practice breathing through the nostrils five times. It should be done facing the Sun (East in the morning and West in the evening.)
First word "OM" - ॐ
It is also called Pranava because the word 'Om' or 'Aum' comes from the Prana (vital vibration) that pervades the universe. The scriptures say, "Aum iti ek akshara Brahman" (Aum that one syllable is Brahman). It is the sum and substance of all the sounds that emanate from the human throat. It is the primordial element symbolic of the Universal Absolute.

Bahriti - bhur, bhubha, svah
The above three words of Gayatri, which literally means "past", "present" and "future," are called Vyahriti. Vyahrti is that which gives knowledge of the entire cosmos or "Ahriti". The scriptures say: “ Vishkeha ahriti: sarva virata, prahlanam prakasokaran: vyahriti:”. Thus, by uttering these three words, one who utters them contemplates the glory of God that illuminates the three worlds or realms of experience.
