The United States and the United Kingdom are now facing intense international criticism following an agreement reached by the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia to form a new alliance to deter China and secure the Indo-Pacific region. Through this agreement, the United States and the United Kingdom have jointly given Australia the opportunity to build a nuclear submarine. The two countries will supply nuclear submarine technology to Australia under the UKUS agreement. China has been widely criticized before. France, another Western ally, has also criticized the move. France says they were stabbed in the back. China has accused the three countries of displaying a "war of attrition" mentality.

At the virtual meeting, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and US President Joe Biden described the new alliance as a "historic step" in strengthening their relationship. None of the three leaders mentioned China directly in the video conference. There is no doubt, however, that the decision was made in response to China's expansionist activities in the South China Sea and to increase their belligerent attitude towards Taiwan.
In response, Johnson said: "The United Kingdom is committed to upholding international law. I will send that message to our friends around the world, and I will send
that strong message to Beijing. "
